Resolved. Just needed correct cables.

Problem fixed. The cable I was using was a "3 RCA to 3.5mm" 3-pole cable, plugged into the Composite jack on the player.

Wrong cable. Found a single-pole "1 RCA male to 3.5mm male" cellphone adapter cable at Radio Shack that works perfectly (you need a separate "2 RCA to 3.5mm" Y-adapter cable for audio.)

The 3RCA (this is the ubiquitous "iPod video cable") adapter cables' contacts are in the wrong place to be used with the DVD player's 3.5mm Composite input. And you shouldn't be plugging audio into the Composite video jack anyway.

With the correct cables, the player displays external video with stereo sound perfectly.

Hope this helps out others.

I want to connect the Composite (Yellow/Red/White) output of my video camera to my portable DVD player.

I have a "LiquidVideo LIDM-830" portable DVD player with 8" screen. On the side are dual-use Composite/S-video/audio 3.5mm plugs on the side with In/Out switch to control the direction.

When I plug my camera's Y/R/W cable into the Composite jack of the player, I can (barely) see a dark & distorted image (like I'm on the wrong channel) with no sound.

I can't use the S-Video out on the camera because I don't have an "S-vid to 3.5mm" cable.

I've tried every switch/setting on both units I can find (channel, resolution, etc). Tried different ports (on both), all to no avail.

The camera output looks fine on my big TV, so I know it's not the camera. Anyone else have any success here?
