Difference between -R and +R
Can anyone please tell me the difference between -R and +R discs and why players can only play one or the other. My DVD burner does both on my PC, so why does my dvd recorder for TV only see -R?
Probably been asked a thousand times but cant find the answer.
Thanks

re: Difference between -R and +R
-R and +R are just two different ways that the burners can construct a DVD disk. Originally, burners only supported one or the other, with -R predominantly used for video/movies etc. and +R used for data backup.
To avoid supporting the 'loser', manufacturers started to support both systems for PC based drives, but many under TV recorders still only support one or the other (or DVD-RAM, which is another DVD format). Philips recorders tend to support +R with nearly everyone else supporting -R.
But TV based players should still play back -R and +R, although sometimes there are media compatibility issues.
