DVDs wont play on all players
Hi
I have been making DVDs using PowerProducer Gold 2 NE that came with the JVC digital camcorder. I burn the final DVDs onto DVD -R, 4.7 Gb.
This will play on most but not all DVD players. someone has a combo LG DVD-VHS and I get the message check disk.
Is there any good software or easy solution to this. Freeware software to convert or burn a fully compatable DVD for all players.
thanks

Have you burnt any other DVDs on your DVD burner to playback on that LG player, but without using the PowerProducer software (ie. try Nero or something)? Also, are you able to try a burn onto a DVD+ or a DVD-RW to see if the LG is just picky about media?

re: DVDs wont play on all players
I recieved a set of DVDs for the UK they were 0
universal but would not play on any of my three
players. They did play on my computor. I contacted the seller and he was puzzled he told
me to try a cheap DVD player. I went to circut city with one of the discs and inserted it in each machine until it worked. It played in a $40
machine. I used it for a while but it would skip
and roll at times. I told this to the seller and
he sent me another 16 dvd set. That did not work either. Because he felt be he sent along a
bonus dvd with 5 films on it. That one worked.
I wrote him again and told him whatever him what ever that dvd was worked perfect. So he sent me
another set on those dvds. Still don't work
Now I have 3 sets of 16 ea. He dosn't want them back because it cost to much to ship to UK.
Is there any place I can take them to get them to
work in my machines?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

re: DVDs wont play on all players
Thanks to DVD Help team.
I burnt the DVD using Nero. I did not copy the disk but I selected 'Burn DVD movie files' and then added all the VOB and other files. I tried one simple section of a DVD I made, no menus, just a small video section. This then played, but started jerking then stopped and went to the beginning. I did this for another part and that played. So it is working but not perfect.
I now feel it is the DVD authoring software. Low budget software will play on most players but not on all. I spoke to other people that make DVDs professionally and they recommended Adobe Encore. This is expensive and it is best to download some 30 day free trial software and see what works best. I may look into DVD authoring software reviews as well.
Thanks

Linda,
On your computer look at the flies on the DVDs, you should see two directories, audio and video, and in video you should see some files ending in .VOB. If not you have movie files that are not in standard DVD format for TVs, but movie files to play on the computer, e.g. Mpeg, avi etc.
Also, you can try copying the DVDs onto DVD -R blank DVDs. Many players will not play DVD +R discs and your set of discs may have been made onto +R.
Hope this helps.

re: DVDs wont play on all players
When you get stuttering playback, it's worth trying to burn a disk at single speed ie 1x. If you are burning at 4x or 8x or even 16x, then there's a possibility that the data isn't streaming to the drive quickly enough, plus it makes more demands on the media you are using.
If Nero doesn't work, then it might be that other software won;t work either.
Another option is in nero to burn to an image file on the hard disk, and then burn that image file onto a DVD. This means that you computer won't be doing as much work when the actual burn to DVD takes place.

I'm in Australia and have been using ULTran and Princo DVD-R discs for years now. I've always run into error codes with Nero, but using DVDShrink is always spot on.

I've always run into error codes with Nero, but using DVDShrink is spot on. If the movie looks and sounds good in the preview screen, the finished product looks and sounds great on my DVD players.
For some reason DVD+R discs haven't been reliable in my players, so I'm now using ULTran and Princo DVD-R discs exclusively (I'm in Australia).

I HAVE A TOSHIBA DVD +/- RW DL DRIVE. I BACK UP PERSONAL MOVIES USING DVD -R DISKS AND NERO 5.5.
BEFORE THIS TOSHIBA, I HAD A 4X DVD BURNER AND USED THE SAME KIND OF DVD DISKS FOR MY BACKUPS.USING THIS 4X DRIVE THINGS WENT PERFECTLY. WITH THE TOSHIBA I CAN COPY MY MOVIES BUT I CAN NOT SEE THEM IN MY DVD PLAYERS. I CAN SEE THEM ONLY IN MY COMPUTER. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?

I've just bought a philips dvp3142k dvd player and the movies i've burned in dvd's with dvd shrink + nero won't run, although they do run perfectly on my two dvd player/burners, an lg and the one that came with my pc, an hp. I've used some really cheap dvd's, but the question is why do they work on the pc, even though they are cheap? what do i have to do for them to work on the dvd player?

re: DVDs wont play on all players
Just a huge "Thank You" to this very, very instructive web site! I've made several movies for cable and now want to sell them on DVD. And I want to get the very best product. However I am quite dismayed that DVDs made by huge companies sometimes skip or stutter. This should not be! So I'm take a large amount to time to turn out a "bulletproof" product, if that is possible. Let me say that these problems RARELY occured in VHS duplication. That IS a largely bulletproof format. Again, thanks to all. FV.
